Fire department open house provides close-up view of firefighters’ work

The Homewood-Flossmoor High School boys varsity golf team advanced to the Illinois high school state championship with a third place finish at Monday’s sectional round in Alton. The team was led by senior Jack Mulligan who took second place overall with an even par 72. Other contributors were Preston Genett (79), Kevin Steiner (80), Brent Hughes (87), Perry Hoag (88) and Jack Calderone (90).The golf team will compete for the state championship with 12 teams Oct. 16 and 17 at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington.

Saturday, July 2

  • Roots + Fire Water grand opening, 11 a.m. at 1941 Ridge Road in Homewood.

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
