Area Green Team volunteers will be at a booth at the Homewood Farmers Market on Saturday, Oct. 10, to help residents recycle plastic materials that are difficult to dispose of properly.

The market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Homewood Village Hall parking lot, 2020 Chestnut Road.

Volunteers will be collecting plastic bags and wrapping material for recycling. Items accepted include dry cleaning bags, case wrappers, bread bags, air pillows, produce bags, newspaper bags and plastic grocery bags, according to a news release from the team.

These items are not accepted for recycling by local disposal companies and do not belong in curbside recycling bins because they can clog recycling machines, leading to breakdowns.

There are a number of Green Teams hosted by local schools and by the Village of Flossmoor. Their mission is to educate the public about how to reduce pollution caused by plastics and to provide opportunities to dispose of plastic waste.
