The suspect apprehended after an attempted armed robbery of an off-duty police officer in Homewood late Thursday has been charged with attempted vehicular hijacking and attempted armed robbery, according to Homewood police.

In an update  on the case posted Monday, police said the 17-year-old was transported to the juvenile detention center in Chicago.

The juvenile was apprehended after two suspects approached the off-duty officer in the 18600 block of Klimm Avenue about 11 p.m. Thursday. The armed officer discharged his firearm and the two suspects attempted to flee. One was apprehended and one remains at large. 

There were no reports of injuries in the encounter, according to police.
