The last first day: District 153 students resume classes Thursday

Despite challenging weather, Parker Junior High School’s cross country team Wednesday competed in its second meet of the fall season.

During the meet, Parker took on teams from James Hart Junior High School, of Homewood, and New Lenox Liberty. It took place at Apollo Park in Homewood.

In the two-mile seventh grade girls race Eleanor Sloan finished fifth with a time of 16:47, Anna Wootton finished sixth in 17:01 and Kamya Brown finished seventh in 17:10 to lead the Parker girls.

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Flossmoor Volunteer Fire Department kids parade, starting at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High, ending in downtown Flossmoor.
  • Homewood 4th of July parade, staring at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway, south to Ridge Road, then east to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
