Homewood area shoppers will be losing a favorite store for household goods in the near future.

Bed, Bath & Beyond officials confirmed the company plans to close its store at 17910 Halsted St., although no specific date for the closing was noted.

“Our lease term is ending for our Homewood location,” said Jessica Joyce, public relations manager. “Our customers can find us at Orland Park or Schererville or shop online at www.bedbathandbeyond.com.”

Joyce did not respond to questions about the lease situation.

She said store associates “have all been offered assignments at our other locations in the area.”

Homewood Mayor Richard Hofeld said Saturday that he is in the process of making contacts with intermediaries who might be able to help persuade the company to reconsider.

“We’re doing what we can to keep them in town,” he said.
