Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 24 will host an open house at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, to mark the grand opening of its newly expanded facility at 17555 Ashland Ave. in Homewood, according to a news release from the organization.
MABAS Division 24 is comprised of 20 South Suburban fire departments organized solely to provide mutual aid on major incidents to 34 area communities.
“Our goal is to provide well-trained responders and assets to serve thousands of citizens and assist each other in providing specialized and extensive rescue efforts,” MABAS officials said in the release. “After years of searching for a South Suburban facility for shared, specialized equipment and rolling stock , we found a place specialty teams (hazardous materials, technical rescue, dive, and investigators) can train together and access emergency response equipment in this centralized location built by the hard work of our volunteers and supporters.”
MABAS Division 24 has 20 member departments, including Homewood and Flossmoor.
