For 35 years, Pam Sigler of Flossmoor watched her father, the late Rev. Eugene Sigler, spend most of his waking hours running the Jones Memorial Community Center in Chicago Heights.
Now Sigler, Kathleen Field Orr of Flossmoor and Scott McEldowney of Homewood are joining with other members of the organization’s board of trustees in hosting a special house party on Sunday, Aug. 23, to benefit the center.
“An Afternoon at the European Market” will feature specialty foods, premium wine and craft beer, cooking and mixology demonstrations, a raffle and auction all at the home of Glenna and Dudley Elvery of Olympia Fields. The couple owns The Cottage on Dixie Restaurant in Homewood.
Tickets are $60 per person and are available through the center’s website at http://www.jonescenter.org Sigler said the fundraiser will be benefitting the center’s numerous programs for children.
Jones Center, 220 E. 15th St. in Chicago Heights, was founded in 1917. Today it serves children, adults, families and senior citizens in Chicago Heights through educational programs, social services and recreational activities that help strengthen families and individuals using a community model.
The center offers hands-on computer training for all ages, with online job searches and assistance in creating professional resumes, financial literacy classes, health and wellness programs, immigration services, a food pantry, after- school and senior social club programs.
