The driver of a vehicle that struck a tree in the 1100 block of 187th Street on June 25 was injured and was transported from the scene by ambulance, according to neighbors.Homewood police said the driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.The accident was reported about 3:15 p.m.Police declined to release additional information, citing Illinois statute 625 5/11-412 . . .

Summer events

Monday, July 4

  • Homewood 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Catholic Church parking lot, then follows Ridge Road to Izaak Walton Nature Preserve, where there will be a community picnic.
  • Flossmoor 4th of July parade. Starts at 10 a.m. at Parker Junior High and ends downtown, where there will be fun activities.
