Homewood Fire Department has 3 new captains
The Homewood Fire Department has three new captains in its ranks. Chief Bob Grabowski promoted a trio of lieutenants to the captain. Chris Kieta and Bill Wright were sworn in at the July 11 village board meeting. Tim Cameron was sworn in later that week.
Former Homewood village attorney Walter Cummings dies
Walter D. Cummings, Homewood’s village attorney for 39 years, died Thursday, July 27. He had served under seven village managers. Cummings, 85, was originally from Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. Prairie State College thanks Homewood dentist for his work establishing dental hygiene clinic
It was 50 years ago that Homewood resident Dr. Francis Wright helped organize the dental hygiene program at Prairie State College. In June, PSC paid tribute to Wright, presenting him with its Pioneer Pillar award in recognition of his work on behalf of the program he helped develop.
