Lyke’s appointment was approved by the District 233 school board at the Feb. 18 meeting. His salary will be $115,000. He was given a one-year contract starting July 1.

When Dan Vosnos, the former athletic director, left in summer 2019, Gail Smith, director of activities, accepted the role of acting athletic director. Lyke has had the director of activities position at H-F this school year. Smith will be returning to her previous position in July.

Lyke spent 13 years working in Lincoln-Way District 210. Before that, he was a physical education teacher and baseball and football coach at TF South High in Lansing, and held the school’s athletic director position for two years. He also spent four years coaching college baseball.

He is a graduate of the University of Kansas and received a master’s degree in education administration from St. Xavier University.

“I am extremely appreciative of Superintendent Von Mansfield and the board of education for the confidence they have in me to lead the athletic department,” Lyke said. “I am excited to be part of the rich tradition and history of Homewood-Flossmoor athletics. I look forward to working with the community, faculty and kids.”
