HFD adds ‘seat belt convincer’ to annual open house

There will be a new attraction at the Homewood Fire Department’s annual open house this year, a ride. The Illinois State Patrol will bring its Seat Belt Convincer apparatus to provide guests with an experience that helps remind them about the importance of wearing seat belts.

Mary Piernas, formerly of Matteson, turned 100 on Sept. 4 and Dorothy Jackson, formerly of Chicago, celebrated her 102nd birthday on Sept. 30. Family members and friends were on hand to join in the festivities that marked the incredible life stories.
