Local nursing homes hit hard by COVID-19. On Sunday, the Illinois Department of Public Health released information on the numbers of cases and deaths at long term care facilities. ManorCare in Homewood had 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and eight deaths, according to IDPH, making it tied for second in Cook County for most deaths. Sunrise in Flossmoor had eight cases and three deaths. IDPH plans to update the numbers weekly.
Keep gardening. The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District native plant sale is on for May 23, but with some pandemic precautions in place. Plants will have to be ordered in advance. The deadline is May 19. Pickup will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 23, at Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave. in Olympia Fields with “drive through, pop-the-trunk loading.” Pick-up times will be spaced in 15 minute increments and times will be emailed to buyers 48 hours before the sale. “There will be no browsing and shopping on the day of the sale. If you need help in plant selection, please email and we will be happy to respond and help,” the park district said.
South Sub Music Live to host featured artist virtual concert. South Sub Music Live with support from the Homewood Arts Council will hold a Facebook live concert from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, featuring Nashville performer Tommy Womack with performances by local musicians Kelly Campos, Justin Wheeler and Maddie Schmidt.
