St. Joseph School in Homewood graduated its last class on Friday, June 2. After 91 years, the school is closing its doors. But none of that mattered on Friday as the 13 graduates marched up the center aisle of St. Joseph Church to the traditional notes of “Pomp and Circumstance.”

The creativity of eight students in the 3D sculpture and ceramics class at Homewood-Flossmoor High School brought to life “Obelisk,” the 12th outdoor sculpture on campus, which was dedicated at a cermony on Tuesday, May 30.
Three new board members serving Homewood Library
The Homewood Public Library board of trustees welcomed three new members and approved its 2018 budget at the May 17 meeting. Outgoing board president Murray Barr administered the oath of office to three members. Percy Harris, Adrienne River and Patricia Mosley Smith.
Talented H-F junior earns perfect ACT score
Allie Mangel of Homewood has many talents. She proved that point by earning a perfect score on the ACT exam, and a near-perfect score on the SAT exam.
H-F High School investing in computer technology updates
At Homewood-Flossmoor High School, “technology doesn’t drive our curriculum. It’s part of our curriculum,” Gary Posing told board of education members. Posing, director of information technology, gave that assessment to the District 233 board May 16 before it approved spending on technology upgrades.
New theater group gearing up in Homewood

District 153 readies for STEM Lab at Churchill School
The District 153 school board approved spending approximately $180,000 in Title I funds to add a STEM Lab at Churchill School. The board expects to receive the money on July 1, the new budget year. The board will hire Creative Learning Systems to install the lab in Churchill’s library.[Read More…]
H-F High improving security with front entrance changes
The District 233 school board approved a major construction project that will improve security at the Homewood-Flossmoor High School South Building main entrance. The board at its May 16 meeting awarded a $410,984 contract to Cosgrove Construction of Joliet for the work to be done over the summer months.
Viking Orchestra planning 2018 trip to Cuba
Members of the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Viking Orchestra will tour Cuba next spring. The orchestra’s trip was announced at a May 11 meeting of about 200 parents and students.
