Homewood Historical Society elects new officers and directors

The roster for the Homewood Historical Society (HHS) for 2026-27 was officially set at the organization’s recent annual meeting.

Three officers are continuing in their offices—Bob Anderson, president; Koni Shaughnessy, secretary; and Mark Leschuck, treasurer.  New to the leadership team is long-time director Megan Tipton who will serve as vice president.

Elected to director positions are Beth Faulkner, Matt Frick, Linda Kuta Gray and Ed McGoldrick who will serve with directors Christine Banks and Elaine Egdorf, the society’s co-founder and past president.

Mayor Richard Hofeld was on hand to formally swear in the officers and directors.

The society is embarking on its 46th year of preserving Homewood’s past. HHS plans for monthly programs at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month from September 2026 through April 2027 at the Homewood Public Library.

The first program on the schedule is the history of Homewood-Flossmoor High School presented by H-F graduate and author Tom Dobrez on Sept. 9.  At the Oct. 14 meeting, Ashley Van Sipma will share the 125-year history of the family-owned Van Sipma’s Jewelers in Homewood.

All are welcome to the Dorband-Howe House Museum, 2035 W. 183rd St., operated by HHS. Visitors can see 5,000 items and 1,500 images that are archived, including numerous displays about Homewood history.  The museum is open Saturdays from 1 to 3 p.m.  Admission is free.
