As the school year winds down, the kindergarteners, first and second graders at Willow School in Homewood got to be outside with the farm animals at a petting zoo.
On Friday, May 15, a farm team from Huntley brought a menagerie of animals to the delight of the children. They got to feed and pet the pony, goats, sheep, cow and lama. A rabbit and chicken were there but preferred the comfort of their own pen.
To start with, the students listened to instructions on how to feed the animals – from their hand, not the paper cup full of feed. Students circled the pen trying to draw the animals’ attention, not a hard thing when you’re giving them food.
Once the feeding was complete, the students were allowed in the pen to wander and pet the animals.
