Homewood-Flossmoor High School students won three first-place honors and 17 awards in all at the 33rd annual Midwest Media Educators Association’s high school video festival on May 1.
Two videos were selected for the Crystal Pillar Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Those videos will next be judged in national competition in October.
In addition, three students received college scholarships.
“It was a very good day for the Viking Broadcasting Company. Our program is very proud,” said teacher Mark Ciesielski.

The scholarship winners are:
- Declan Klyn received the $2,500 The Joel Weissman Scholarship.
- Laila Dyer received the $2,500 Silver Circle Scholarship.
- Anthony Reynoso received the $5,000 Lucas Palermo Scholarship.
The award winners are:
- First Place — Laila Dyer, Sofia Bilgi and Declan Klyn in the News Magazine category; Laila Dyer in the Feature News Report category; Anthony Reynoso in the Movie Trailer category; Aidan Klauk in the Cinematography category; and Ariana Salas and Anthony Reynoso in the Music Video category.
- Second Place — Anthony Reynoso in the Public Service Announcement category; Laila Dyer in the Documentary category; Declan Klyn, Aeneas Allen and Myles Ellis in the Commercial category.
- Third Place — Aidan Klauk in the Talk Show category; Emmanuel Wright in the Live Sports Production category; Emmanuel Wright in the Sports Promo category; Niko Lawrence in the Dramatic Narrative category; Aidan Klauk, Anthony Reynoso and Charlie Wachtel for Dramatic Narrative category; Aeneas Allen and Myles Ellis in the Natural Audio News category; Aidan Klauk and Anthony Reynoso in the Commercial category.
- Fourth Place — Aidan Klauk in the Demonstration category.
- Fifth Place — Anthony Reynoso and Niko Lawrence in the News Package category.
