Crafty Tots. From 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. youngsters can finger-paint, doodle, and put together their own works of art at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. All supplies provided. Register here.

Senior Social Hour. Seniors are invited to visit the meeting room at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 1 to 2 p.m. for an hour of pleasant conversation and light refreshments.

Tween Time. Kids in grades fourth through sixth can spend time from 4:30 to 6 p.m. playing games, making crafts, and watching a movie in the meeting room at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Register here.

Saturday, May 9

Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. A 25-mile fitness bike ride. Everyone stays together. Leaves GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St., every Saturday (weather permitting) at 8 a.m. Returns before 10 a.m. Pace dictated by the riders who show up. Explore our local streets and trail system with Barb & Dan Lawler.

Off-Leash Ride. A nine-mile bike ride at about a 9-to-10 mph pace every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at 8:30 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. Ends back at the shop about 9:30 a.m. for donuts. Kid trailers welcome.

Kayaking Adventure. The H-F Park District is sponsoring a day of kayaking. Meet at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood at 9 a.m. then paddle the scenic Kankakee River. Return by 5 p.m. This guided day trip offers the perfect blend of recreation and nature as you spend time on the water, take in beautiful river views, and unwind at a comfortable pace. Fee includes transportation from the Irwin Center, a single-kayak rental, life vest and paddle. For people age 18 and up. Fee is $99 for park district residents, $109 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Green Thumb Saturdays: Body Smart Gardening. Tony Greep, U of I Extension Master Gardener, will offer advice about how gardeners can protect themselves from injury while gardening. The session will be from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at Homewood village hall, 2020 Chestnut Road. 

STEM Saturday. Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, will host its free weekly science play time for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Play opportunities include Pixel Pegs, Nano, Early Math Counts Activities, Makerspace, Imagination Playground, Dinosaur Bones, LEGO Wall and more.

Fairy Gardens. Kids can bring a grown-up and together create a fairy garden from 1 to 3 p.m. All supplies will be provided. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Register here.

Peaceful Sound Bath. Preston Klik will guide a relaxing sound meditation in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Participants should arrive by 1:15 p.m. Late arrivals will not be admitted to avoid disrupting the session, which is a 90-minute acoustic journey with periods of verbal guidance. Participants are invited to bring a yoga mat, blanket, and a pillow if they wish. A limited number of chairs will be available. Register here

Annabelle Rudan at Rudy’s. Annabelle Rudan will perform acoustic music starting at 6 p.m. at Rudy’s adjacent to Balagio Ristorante, 17501 Dixie Highway in Homewood.

Who’s Birthday: A Tribute to Pete Townsend. Homewood Art Council will host its second annual tribute to The Who at 7 p.m. at Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road in Homewood.  Performers will include Dolph Chaney, Preston Pisellini of The Webstirs, and Joe Starita, Bart and Miranda Winters of Melkbelly dive into the Pete Townshend catalog for an evening out in the woods. House Walk. The Flossmoor Service League’s annual house walk fundraiser moves to Sunday this year. The stroll to view featured houses will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Visit flossmoorserviceleague.org for more information.
