Torrential rains overnight make for soggy Saturday

Thunderstorms dumped more than two inches of rain in a short time on Homewood and Flossmoor late Friday and early Saturday morning, April 4, overwhelming drainage systems and causing localized flooding.

On local social media forums, residents reported flooded basements, streets turned into temporary lakes and flooded viaducts that forced motorists to take detours.

Chronicle staff took photos of high water remaining in a number of locations until early afternoon. Readers also provided photos showing flooding near homes and in their travels.
