The Homewood Village Board approved the requests for liquor licenses to Bevdas Wine & Spirits and Maison des Fleurs at the Feb. 10 meeting.
According to Homewood Director of Finance Amy Zukowski, Bevdas Wine & Spirits, located at 3043 183rd St., is seeking a Class 2 liquor license that would allow the store to sell packaged alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption.
The business, in the space formerly occupied by Brunswick Zone bowling alley, expects to open in mid-March. The Homewood location would become Bevdas’ third in the South Suburbs, joining existing stores in Glenwood and Lansing, Zukowski said.
Kinjal Patel, sister of owner Silken Patel, spoke at the meeting on his behalf.
“We’ll have the finest spirits, wine, craft beer,” Patel said, adding, “we will also have wine tastings during the summertime, bourbon and scotch tastings during the wintertime.”
Mayor Rich Hofeld expressed excitement over Patel’s business plan.
“He said that this would be somewhere along the lines of a Binny’s store with the wine aisles and so forth. I was very happy to hear that,” Hofeld said.
Professionals will also come into the store to teach about products, and there will be a cigar room as well, Patel said.
“It is going to be a great opportunity for us and the customers to mingle,” Patel said.
The board also approved the Class 5 liquor license request from Lanise Swarn, owner of Maison des Fleurs.
The establishment located at 1916 Ridge Road opened in August 2025, and provides floral and dining services for tea and pastries. The alcohol would be for on-premise consumption only, Zukowski said.
“We are not seeking to operate a bar, we are not requesting to sell bottles, alcohol would only be added as an ingredient to our tea,” Swarn said, adding, “it does not change the character of our business, we are strong with making sure the cafe is tea-focused.”
The board praised the business for its success and great reviews.
“I have to tell you what a great addition your tearoom is to the village of Homewood,” Hofeld said.
“Myself and Trustee Willis came into your establishment and we had a great time, it was just beautiful,” Trustee Vivian Harris-Jones said.
“Everybody raves about it, I always see people coming and going,” Trustee Lauren Roman said, adding, “we’re just really excited to have you here and would love to see your business expand.”
With the board’s approval, staff can now begin the formal licensing process. After the applicants complete all required steps, the village plans to introduce an ordinance at a future meeting to increase the number of available Class 2 liquor licenses to accommodate these businesses, Zukowski said.
