Did you get a gift that’s just not your style? Or maybe it doesn’t fit with your decor? Share it with someone else.
From Friday, Nov. 28, through the month of January volunteers will be collecting gifts for the annual Leave It for Love re-gifting program.
“It’s re-gifting for good,” said Leave It for Love founder Jennifer Molski. The group collects new, unused gifts then distributes them among low-income, isolated older adults throughout the Chicagoland area.
Gifts can be dropped at Beyond Borders Café, 1036 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor and Loulou Belle, 2049 Ridge Road in Homewood.
Suggested items include trinkets, tchotchkes, hostess gifts, personal care items, warm weather gear, household décor and non-perishable food.
“I wanted to create an opportunity for those who have many blessings to share their good fortune with others,” she said. “These gifts serve as gentle reminders to senior citizens that they are remembered, valued and loved.”
Since the organization’s inception in 2003, thousands of items have been re-gifted. Someone’s unneeded tea set or winter scarf may help to keep someone warm during Chicago’s harsh winters. Molski calls her unique and innovative program “easy on the pocketbook, good for the environment and great for the human spirit. A win-win for all.”
