At Churchill School’s open house Thursday, Sept. 11, hundreds of parents heard messages about school operations and learned how their students are progressing during the first quarter of school.
Principal Tara Peacock reminded parents that the message given each day to students is “I belong here. I will grow here.” Churchill serves 606 third, fourth and fifth graders in Homewood. The school’s mascot is a bulldog.
Staff organized several informational sessions that covered student behavior expectations, getting students to school and absentee guidelines, rules for the 8:15 a.m. drop-off and 3:15 p.m. pick-up rules.

Peacock said staff has a great appreciation for ongoing parent support. Representatives from the PTA and the Parent Music Association were on hand to sign up new members.
The evening event gave parents a chance to visit with classroom teachers and talk with special education teachers, the school librarian, social worker and speech pathologist.
Churchill School connects with parents on Sunday mornings through its Bulldog Bulletin Weekly Newsletter that’s emailed to each family. Teachers generally send information to parents each month.
