Homewood-Flossmoor School District 233 Board of Education will hold a board retreat from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Olympia Fields Country Club, 2800 Country Club Drive.

Flossmoor Downtown Streetscape. Storm sewer construction was delayed but could start the week of July 14. All downtown businesses remain open and accessible during construction.
Metra Schedule and Service Change. Sunday schedules will be in effect on the Metra Electric Line July 19-20 and July 26-27 and the line will partially shutdown for the second weekend due to extensive construction work associated with the South Shore Line’s expansion plans. No trains will operate between the Millennium and 18th Street stations on the weekend of July 26-27. The Van Buren Street and Museum Campus/11th Street stations will be closed. Metra and NICTD trains will terminate and originate from the 18th Street Station, with buses replacing trains between Millennium Station and 18th. Buses will shuttle riders via the McCormick Place busway between Millennium and 18th Street stations. The buses will not stop at Van Buren Street or Museum Campus/11th Street.
Greens & Grills. Open Access is seeking sponsors for the organization’s Sept. 19 golf outing at Lincoln Oaks Golf Course. Sponsorships start at $100. Proceeds will help feed families in need at Thanksgiving.

Monday, July 14
Life Sized Clue. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a life-sized game of clue for kids 8 to 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. Solve the crime as you play the classic “whodunit” board game, “Clue.” For optional fun, come dressed up as your favorite “Clue” character. Registration is required and limited to 12 participants per session (6 teams of 2 players).
Manga Club. The club will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. in the FORT, second floor of Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.
Tuesday, July 15
Park Storytime. Homewood Public Library will host storytime from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in Orchard Park, 1655 Olive Road. Register here.
Summer Science Series. A hands-on workshop for teens from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in The Attic at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., to explore the chemistry of color and movement with bubbles. Create mesmerizing liquid light shows. The session will combine scientific exploration with artistic expression. Register here.
Choo-Choo Ride. GoodSpeed Cycle’s slow roll just riding around bike ride for all ages. Meet at the shop, 2125 W. 183rd St., at 6:30 p.m. The ride is about four miles at a leisurely pace. The ride ends at the shop around 7:30 p.m. with Dilly Bars and beers for riders. Helmets required.
Wednesday, July 16
Birds of Prey. From 11 a.m. to noon Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center will host a chance to see raptors up close as the Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab and Education visits. The cost is $7 for H-F Park District residents, $9 for non-residents. Register here.
National Hot Dog Day. Homewood-Flossmoor Park District will host a hot dog cookout from noon to 2 p.m. in Irwin Park, 1800 block of Ridge Road in Homewood.
Picnic Day. Flossmoor Public Library will host a picnic from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Leavitt Park, 1011 Leavitt Ave. For all ages. Everyone is invited to bring their favorite book, snacks, a blanket, towel or chair. The library will provide drinks and light refreshments plus fun activities.
Prairie at Night. Dave Ward, former superintendent of golf, will host a walk starting at 6 p.m. at Coyote Run Golf Course, 800 Kedzie Ave., offering information about the various native plants throughout the course and to advise on how to landscape with native species. Teen Movie Club. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a showing of “The Greatest Showman” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Register here.
Equality of Rights. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host “A Conversation with Elizabeth Cady Stanton,” adapted and performed by Betsey Means, directed by Eileen Vorbach, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room. Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902) was an American social activist and leading figure of the early women’s movement. Betsey Means is a professional actress who has performed with Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare on the Green, Blue Rider Theatre and Chicago Children’s Theatre.
Friday, July 18
Brew & View. The H-F Park District will host a showing of “Men in Black” from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. in Irwin Park, 1800 block of Ridge Road in Homewood. The movie will start at dusk. Food and beverage vendors will be available.
Saturday, July 19
Homewood Outdoor Farmers Market. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Martin Square on Martin Avenue between Chestnut and Ridge roads in downtown Homewood. Vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, skincare and more. Food trucks will be on hand and ready-to-eat meals will be available.
STEM Saturday. Science play and learning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway.
Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go farther. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended.
Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St., at 8:30 a.m. sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts.

Salem Lutheran Vacation Bible School. The theme this year is “The Wild West!” Kids will play games, make crafts, hear Bible stories, have snacks and there will be music and fun from 6 to 8 p.m. each day from July 21 to 24. July 21 through Aug. 1
Hobo Jungle. Monday through Friday 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Flossmoor Park. For kids aged 7 through 13. Learn how to use basic carpentry tools while building full-size themed structures. Safety is stressed and reinforced. Campers will spend part of their day in the construction area and the rest playing organized games. The construction area is located under a nut tree. Campers get a themed T-shirt, make a visit to Millennium Park Splash Pad and there will be a parent night. Fee is $159 for H-F Park District residents, $189 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Blood Drive. Financial Advisor Patrick Zamkin will host a Versiti blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. at his office, 18735 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Make a reservation here. For details, call 708-798-9066.
Thursday, July 24
Chamber Night. The fifth annual Chamber Night will bring the music and family fun to a new location, Flossmoor Commons, starting at 5 p.m. There will be food, local business vendors and more great music, headlined by an Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra ensemble playing showtunes. Bel Canto Community Choir will open, and this year there will be an after party featuring Return 2 Soul with Keya Trammell. This is a free event.
Saturday, July 26
Feast of the Goat Queen. From noon to 11 p.m. Rabid Brewing will host its annual festival at 17759 Bretz Drive in Homewood. There will be food, music, fae costumes, artisan market, live music and baby goats.
Thursday, July 31
Martin Square Block Party. The party from 6 to 10 p.m. on Martin Avenue between Ridge and Chestnut Roads will include music, food and community vibes. DJ Nate Olson from All Sing Karaoke will be spinning songs.
Saturday, Aug. 2
School Supplies Drive. A back-to-school supplies drive will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Donations can be placed in bags or boxes of a car trunk for the drive-thru collection. Requested supplies include: clear backpacks, 24-pack crayons, colored markers, colored pencils, blue and black ink pens, spiral notebooks, three-ring binders, two-pocket folders, highlighters, post-it notes, notebook/looseleaf paper, #2 pencils, pencil cases, pencil sharpeners and glue sticks. Donations will be distributed to children served by South Suburban PADS and communities served by St. Vincent DePaul Conference at St. John Neumann. NAACP Far South Side Branch. The local NCAAP branch will host a general membership meeting from noon to 1 p.m. followed by a meet and greet from 1 to 3 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Voter registration will be available. Refreshments will be served.
