Juveniles arrested, charged in violent Flossmoor carjacking

Four of six juveniles involved in a violent carjacking in February 2022 have been arrested and charged in the case, Flossmoor police said Tuesday, June 6.

The juveniles have been charged with attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery, attempted vehicular hijacking, mob action and battery.

One person was struck by gunfire during the incident at School Street and Verne Lane shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2022. The victim was treated by Flossmoor paramedics on scene and transported to a nearby trauma hospital for his injuries.

The Flossmoor Police Department learned during the course of the investigation that prior to the shooting, the juvenile victim was contacted by a known acquaintance via social media. The juvenile victim agreed to pick up the acquaintance who was with two other juvenile subjects. After picking up the subjects, the victim was asked to drive to an apartment complex in a neighboring community, where he was robbed at gunpoint by the three juvenile offenders he had picked up.

Following the armed robbery, the offenders then kidnapped the victim at gunpoint, and forced the victim to drive them to multiple locations throughout the area. The victim was eventually told to drive into Flossmoor, where the three offenders met up with three additional juvenile suspects in the parking lot of Parker Junior High School.

The victim was removed from his vehicle and physically assaulted by the suspects, while in the parking lot. The victim eventually returned to his vehicle and attempted to drive away when he was struck by gunfire. The victim then crashed his vehicle into a tree, and all suspects fled on foot.

Over the course of the investigation, all suspects ranging from 14 to 16 years of age were identified. The case was presented and reviewed with the Juvenile Division of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, who recommended charges against all but two of the accused offenders.

As of May 18, 2023, all juveniles who will be charged in this investigation have been arrested and charged. No further identifying information will be released in reference to the involved juveniles.

The Flossmoor Police Department extended its thanks to all witnesses, everyone who contacted 911, all residents who took time to review video surveillance with investigators, and those who had a hand in helping to solve this crime.
