The Friends of Flossmoor Library is marking October as Friends of the Library month, in addition to celebrating the 16th annual observance of National Friends of Libraries Week Oct. 16 to 22.
National Friends of Libraries Week is coordinated by United for Libraries, a division of the American Library Association with approximately 4,000 personal and group members representing hundreds of thousands of library supporters.
United for Libraries supports those who govern, promote, advocate and fundraise for libraries, and brings together library trustees, advocates, friends and foundations into a partnership that creates a powerful force for libraries in the 21st century. Additional information is at www.ala.org/united.
The Friends of Flossmoor Library extended the celebration to showcase their accomplishments, raise awareness and promote membership.
The Friends of Flossmoor Library was established in 1999 and has raised thousands of dollars for the library.
Community members contribute funds and book donations annually to the group. Some actively volunteer their time to assist the group with fundraising efforts including its daily sale of items donated by patrons.
“The Friends of the Flossmoor Library are a tremendous asset to the library. They are able to sponsor different events and recognize the staff in a way that the library is unable to. We appreciate our friends’ group and are thankful for the resources they contribute to helping us serve our public,” said Jamie Paicely, library director.
