The Homewood Village Board passed an ordinance at the June 9 meeting to authorize the disposal of surplus property from the Homewood Auditorium, located at 2010 Chestnut Road, prior to upcoming renovations.
After the board approved a $151,000 contract with Cosgrove Construction Inc. of Joliet in May to conduct the renovations, village staff took note of existing inventory still within the facility, Homewood Assistant Village Manager Terence Acquah said.
There are several items that are no longer needed and are not expected to be reused. The condition, age and future design plans for the auditorium contributed to the decision to consider the items as surplus property, he said.
According to Acquah, the following items were identified as surplus:
- Folding chairs.
- Gym floor-vinyl cover system (rolls).
- Scoreboard.
- Stage curtains.
- Wheeled tables.
- Basketball rims and backboards.
- Auditorium seating.
- Various and miscellaneous equipment and items.
The village will sell, donate, recycle or otherwise dispose of these items, he said.
The community will have an opportunity to take some of the pieces once the village can identify what items are wanted, Acquah said.
