Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. A 25-mile fitness bike ride. Everyone stays together. Leaves GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St., every Saturday (weather permitting) at 8 a.m. Returns before 10 a.m. Pace dictated by the riders that show up. Explore our local streets and trail system with Barb & Dan Lawler.
Paintball Field Trip. H-F Park District is organizing a trip to Badlandz Paintball Field from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meet at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. Participants will enjoy transportation to and from the paintball field, as well as entry for two hours, rental equipment, and 500 paintballs. Individual, team and objective games will be played throughout the session. Additional paintballs will be available for purchase onsite. For anyone age 18 and up. Off-Leash Ride. A nine-mile bike ride at about a 9-to-10 mph pace every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at 8:30 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. Ends back at the shop about 9:30 a.m. for donuts. Kid trailers welcome.
Recyclepalooza. The annual community recycling event will be held this year from 9 a.m. to noon in the Parker Junior High parking lot, 2810 School St., Flossmoor. Bring hard-to-recycle items. Click here for more details about accepted items.
Homewood Baseball and Softball Opening Day. Homewood Baseball and Softball will hold its opening day parade and first pitch ceremonies. The parade will start at 11 a.m. from Irwin Park. Teams march east on Ridge Road to the ball fields adjacent to Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road.
Wellness in the Woods. Irons Oaks, 20000 Western Ave., will host a nature-based community wellness event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to connect individuals and families with holistic practices that support physical, mental and emotional well-being. This is an open-house style event. Guests are invited to arrive anytime. Activities will run continuously or on a rotating schedule to promote ease and accessibility. Fee is $5. Food Drive. St. John Neumann Parish is collecting nonperishable foods for Catholic Charities pantry and two local pantries from 9 to 11 a.m. at the parish parking lot, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Cash donations also accepted.
Kid’s Crafternoon. There will be a craft project set out in the youth department at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Kids can swing by any time between 1 and 4 p.m. to make a little art.
The Addams Family Musical. Infant Jesus of Prague School, 1101 Douglas Ave. in Flossmoor, will stage “The Addams Family Musical,” billed as “a spooky and hilarious tale of an eccentric family.” Show begins at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for children under 14, available at the door.
