Friday, April 17

Clothing Repair 101. Any Homewood Public Library card holder age 18 or up is invited to the Makery, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 2 to 3 p.m. to learn the basics of clothes mending. From sewing on a button, to mending a hole or hemming pants. Materials will be provided. Participants may bring one clean item in good condition to work on. There is a $5 materials fee. Register here.

Professor Oak’s Trading Lab. Welcome young Pokémon trainers aged 6 to 18 to Professor Oak’s Trading Lab, where trainers can trade cards and enjoy friendly battles in a relaxed setting. Trainers are encouraged to practice fair trading, learn basic game strategies, and show good sportsmanship while connecting with other Pokémon fans. Whether participants are new to the Pokémon Trading Card Game or already know the basics, this program offers a fun space to share cards, play, and enjoy the Pokémon world together from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room in Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave.

Spring Awakening After-Hours Program for Teens. Come to the meeting room at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. to celebrate spring with crafts, games, a movie and pizza. For anyone in grades 7 through 12. Registration here.

H-F High Theater: The Little Mermaid. Homewood-Flossmoor High School theater program will present “The Little Mermaid” at 7 p.m. in the Mall Auditorium, 999 Kedzie Ave. Tickets are sold online. Tickets are $13.60 for adults, $7 for students and $7 for senior citizens. Prices include processing fees.

Murder Mystery: Panic at the Prom. You’re invited to experience an exciting murder mystery night set in the 1980s, 7 p.m. at the Flossmoor Community Church Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. Costumes are optional but encouraged. BYOB (with “Prom Punch” available for purchase) and BYO-snacks. Free-will donation. Registration is required as space is limited. Register here. Saturday, April 18

Boy Scouts Pancake Breakfast. Local scouts will be serving breakfast from 6 to 1 p.m. at Abundant Grace Church, 18200 Dixie Highway. The annual fundraiser benefits Boy Scout Troop 342 and Cub Scout Pack 304. Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

Flossmoor Baseball and Softball Opening Day. Flossmoor Baseball and Softball will hold its opening day parade and festivities. Parade lineup will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Parker Junior High parking lot, and the parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. Teams march east on Flossmoor Road to the ball fields at Flossmoor Park. The ceremonial first pitch and opening day remarks take place on Bronco Field.

Computer Class for Adults: Introduction to Excel. Adults are invited to the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon for an introduction of Microsoft Excel class. Create a spreadsheet, make it look professional, and print it for an upcoming meeting. You’ll also learn how to create simple formulas. (Functions, charts/graphs, and other intermediate features are not covered in this session.) To get the most out of this class, you should already be able to save a document to your computer and to use a mouse and keyboard. The library provides students with laptops for this class. Please do not bring your own device. Individualized instruction may not be possible. No prior experience with computers is necessary. Call 708-798-3600 to register.   

Book Brunch. Teens in grades 7 through 12 who think the two greatest things in life are food and reading are invited to The FORT in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 10:30 a.m. to noon for breakfast and books, whether reading, discussing or just hanging out. Pop in for a minute or stay the whole time. Register here.

DIY Room Decor. Teens in grades 7 through 12 are invited to The FORT at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. to learn how to do a bedroom refresh, including how to make cardboard shelves and signs. Supplies provided. Register here.

Drawing is Fun. Kids aged 6 through 12 can learn the basics of drawing or expand on what they already know from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Irwin Center at 18120 Highland Ave. Class is open to beginners as well as students who are more advanced. New subject matter and drawing methods will be featured each Saturday through May 2. Fee is $45 for H-F Park District residents, $55 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Disc Golf Tournament. The H-F Park District will host an 18-hole disc golf tournament from 2 to 4 p.m. at Patriots Park, 187th Street and Center Avenue in Homewood, for amateur players. Fireside Chats: Native Plants & Pollinators. Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave., will host a campfire chat from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. about how native plants, bees, butterflies work together to bring the season to life. Fee is $10 for H-F Park District residents, $15 for non-residents. Register here.
