Fertilizer/Herbicide Application on Flossmoor Village Properties. Beary Landscaping, Flossmoor’s landscaping contractor, will be applying a combination of fertilizer and herbicide to the lawns of village-owned properties from Wednesday, April 15, through Friday, April 17. Notification flags will be placed at the properties. Residents should stay off the grass until it is dry. ADA-Friendly Trip Planner. Metra has launched a new ADA-friendly Trip Planner to help commuters navigate construction impacts at South Water Street/Millennium Station and other locations affecting accessibility. The tool is designed to assist riders in identifying ADA-accessible stations and routes along the Metra Electric Line during ongoing construction.

Makerspace Days. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., invites teens to visit The Attic from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. to make earrings, sew a squishy or create something completely new in the Makerspace. There will be a focused activity for anyone looking for a little inspiration, but you can come up with your own project, too.
Appliqué Workshop. Homewood Public Library card holders age 18 and up are invited to an appliqué workshop from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Makery, 17917 Dixie Highway. Take something old and make it new. Bring an item you’re willing to cut up (like an old shirt or jeans) and something you’d like to decorate (like a shirt with a stain you want to cover up). Homewood Stories Spring Sprung Show. Homewood District 153 Kindergarten Orientation. A special orientation program for parents and guardians of future Willow School kindergarteners will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the school, 1804 Willow Road in Homewood. The online registration for children starting kindergarten in August will begin the same day, April 15. Parents and guardians can log on to hsd153.org/registration/ to sign their child up for kindergarten classes.

Computer Class for Adults: Beginning Computer. This class teaches the absolute basics of computing, defines practical terms, offers practice with using a mouse and keyboarding, and discusses how to navigate the Microsoft Windows interface. Youth Mountain Biking Program | Parents Info Session. GoodSpeed Cycles and the National Interscholastic Cycling Association will give kids in grades 5 through 8 the opportunity to learn mountain biking skills. Professor Oak’s Trading Lab. Welcome young Pokémon trainers aged 6 to 18 to Professor Oak’s Trading Lab, where trainers can trade cards and enjoy friendly battles in a relaxed setting. Trainers are encouraged to practice fair trading, learn basic game strategies, and show good sportsmanship while connecting with other Pokémon fans. Whether participants are new to the Pokémon Trading Card Game or already know the basics, this program offers a fun space to share cards, play, and enjoy the Pokémon world together from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Helen Wilson Meeting Room in Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave.

Flossmoor Baseball and Softball Opening Day. Flossmoor Baseball and Softball will hold its opening day parade and festivities. Parade lineup will begin at 8:45 a.m. at the Parker Junior High parking lot, and the parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. Teams march east on Flossmoor Road to the ball fields at Flossmoor Park. The ceremonial first pitch and opening day remarks take place on Bronco Field.
Computer Class for Adults: Introduction to Excel. Adults are invited to the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon for an introduction of Microsoft Excel class. Create a spreadsheet, make it look professional, and print it for an upcoming meeting. You’ll also learn how to create simple formulas. (Functions, charts/graphs, and other intermediate features are not covered in this session.) To get the most out of this class, you should already be able to save a document to your computer and to use a mouse and keyboard. The library provides students with laptops for this class. Walk Through Our Mission. You Matter 2 will host an immersive evening at Flossmoor Community Church, that introduces the organization’s work with youth through storytelling, creativity and connection. Guests will journey through interactive stations led by students, alumni and volunteers, experiencing firsthand how You Matter 2 supports youth from middle school through career readiness. The evening will conclude with a Spotlight Program featuring student stories, a live auction, and a collective paddle raise, which is a fundraising practice for attendees to raise their bidder paddles to commit to specific donation levels, to support programs.
