H-F Park District taking registration for camps for kids of all ages

When school’s out, it’s time for kids to have time for play and the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District is offering a variety of camps and activities for summer fun.

Registration is open for Stomping Grounds, Teen Camp, Hobo Jungle, Nature Kids Camp and Adventure Camp. Children can be registered for 10 weeks of camp, or pick a week that works best. For extended care, the park district offers an After Camp program.

New this year is FUN — Fun Unplugged and Nature — meeting on Fridays for 10 weeks. It’s a great way to fill a week, should the child have scheduled activities Monday through Thursday.

The Friday session is also a way to introduce a child to Nature Camp, open to children ages 5 through 9. The one-day weekly camp meets from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $45 for residents and $55 for non-residents.

Stomping Grounds camp is for kindergarten through fifth graders. The camp meets in three locations, depending on a child’s age. The camp is designed to keep kids busy through a host of activities, games and hands-on projects, as well as outdoor fun, trips to Lions Club Pool and field trips.

Stomping Grounds camp has weekly sessions starting June 8 and running through the week of July 27. Sessions are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fees are $199 per week for park district residents and $234 for non-residents.

The park district also provides an After Camp program for parents who need an extra few hours. After Camp is from 3 to 6 p.m. The fee is $79 for residents and $99 for non-residents.

Teen Camp is for students entering grades 6, 7 and 8. It features field trips Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and enrichment activities the other days. Teen Camp runs June 1 through Aug. 7 with sessions from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $219 per week for residents and $254 per week for non-residents.

Hobo Jungle is a two-week camp at Flossmoor Park that lets kids aged 7 to 13 learn how to build structures and work as a team. Part of the day is spent building and part of the day is playing organized games. The last day includes a trip to the Splash Pad. Sessions meet June 8 through 19; June 29 to July 10 and July 20 through July 31. The fee is $159 per week for residents and $189 for non-residents.

Irons Oaks in Olympia Fields puts kids directly in touch with nature through the Nature Kids Camp meeting 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. This program for children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1 through age 9, meets June 1 through Aug. 7. Each week of camp has a different theme and kids get to learn about and explore nature at Irons Oaks. Fee is $199 per week for residents and $224 per week for non-residents.

Irons Oaks also has Adventure Camp for kids ages 10, 11 and 12. This camp includes field trips to other nature centers and outdoor spaces. Sessions are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is by week starting June 8 through the week of Aug. 3. The fee is $215 per week for residents and $240 per week for non-residents.
