Ryan Barbour, 36, of Homewood, was taken into custody on Wednesday, April 1, and will face charges in connection with a crash on March 22 at the intersection of 183rd Street and Governors Highway, according to Homewood police.
The crash resulted in the death of Kyran Smith, 14, of Homewood.
Barbour was charged with aggravated driving while under the influence in the death of another, reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, speeding over 35 mph and improper lane usage, police said.
He remained in custody and is expected to appear at Markham Courthouse for a bond hearing Thursday, April 2.
The crash occurred shortly after 8:15 p.m. on March 22. Police reported that Barbour’s vehicle was traveling southbound on Governors Highway when it veered across the northbound lanes and struck two vehicles stopped at the traffic light while westbound on 183rd Street.
