Dusty Rain. Everyone who parked their vehicles outside Tuesday night woke to find surfaces splattered with muddy residue. According to the National Weather Service, the area got a dose of “dusty rain” overnight. The cause was dust and wildfire ash blown into the air by strong winds from the central and southern Plains. The particles became embedded in raindrops.

Baby Bloomers. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host story time for children aged birth to 2.5 years old and their caregivers. There will be stories, songs, bubbles and free play in the Rauch Reading Room from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Register here.

Computer Class for Adults: Introduction to Microsoft Word. Adults are invited to the Helen Wilson Meeting Room at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., from 10 a.m. to noon for a class that introduces the student to the basics of using Word to draft documents. Experience with a mouse and keyboard is required. Call 708-798-3600 to register.   

KinderCamp. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host the session from noon to 1 p.m. in the meeting room for kids as they prepare to start school. KinderCamp hopes to ease the transition with new topics each time through stories, video, crafts and simple lessons. Register here.

Chess Club for All. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host chess club from 4 to 5 p.m. in the meeting room. Practice chess skills or learn the basics of playing the game. Open to all ages.

Winter Science Series. Anyone aged 9 to 12 can register for this science session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in The Attic at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. There will be experiments with the coolest science around in a hands-on winter workshop. Register here

Writers Club. The club for adult writers will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the meeting room at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Come stretch those creative muscles. Two writing prompts will be provided.

Teen Movie Club: The Notebook. Teens are invited to The Fort in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to watch a showing of “The Notebook” (PG). Register here.

Lost Girl. The Homewood-Flossmoor High School Theatre Program will present “Lost Girl,” a story of coming-of-age exploration of first love and lasting loss. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. tonight and Friday, Feb. 20, and 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the high school, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. Tickets are $6 from students and senior citizens; $11 for adults and are available at gofan.co/app/school/IL15520. This show is recommended for guests aged 13 and older.
