Flossmoor Food Drive. Today is the last day to drop off donations for the village of Flossmoor food drive to replenish the Bloom and Rich Townships food pantries. Drop-off sites are Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road; Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave.; Homewood-Flossmoor Park District’s Goldberg Center, 3301 Flossmoor Road and the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St. Most wanted items are breakfast items, mac & cheese, canned goods, boxed potatoes and rice and pasta dishes.

Hot Topics: TIFs. Homewood village staff will host the first of what might become a series of informative workshops about how the village operates. The first session will cover tax increment financing districts, an economic development tool Homewood uses. The session will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave.

Homewood Public Library Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. in the library, 17917 Dixie Highway. The agenda is available here.

Read, Rock, n’ Rhyme. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host story time for kids age 0 to 7 years old. Kids will be able to dance, shake and wiggle as we share stories, songs, rhymes, and more from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the Rauch Reading Room.

Read, Play, & Grow: A Storytime for Babies and Toddlers.  Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a story time for kids under 2 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. The program helps develop early literacy skills for babies and toddlers and includes stories, songs, fingerplays, nursery rhymes, playtime and movement.

Homeschooler’s Study Group. The group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the FORT, upstairs in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Register here.

Wacky Snack Attack. Interested in what teens from other countries snack on after school? Join in every month for a trip around the world through snacks. This month snacks served from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the FORT, upstairs at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, are from Scandinavia. For grades 7 thru 12. Register here.

IGNITE Open House. You Matter 2 will host an introduction to its after-school program for 6th to 8th grade students from 6 to 7 p.m. at Flossmoor Community Church, 2220 Carroll Parkway.

Honoring Flossmoor Veterans: Stories of Local Heroes. Flossmoor Veterans’ Wall of Honor official Kris Condon will share stories about Flossmoor veterans who inspired the new memorial that will be built adjacent to Flossmoor Park. The event will start at 6:45 p.m. and will be held at Beyond Borders Cafe, 1036 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor.

Owl Prowl. Irons Oaks, 20000 Western Ave., will host from 7 to 8 p.m. a session on owls. Ever wondered if an owl really is as smart as they say? Why don’t we hear them when they fly? Just how far can an owl see? Learn about owl calls, behavior and habitat during a short walk into the surrounding habitat to call for owls and listen for whooo might call back. Fee for H-F Park District residents is $6, for non-residents $8. Click here to register.
