H-F team wins Special Olympics state basketball title

Members of Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s Special Olympics Red & White team brought home the state championship title in basketball.

The team was honored at the Oct. 21 District 233 board meeting where each team member and coach received a championship ring courtesy of Jostens.

“You didn’t just win a championship, you inspired every single person in this room and in this community,” Brian Garland, head coach, told the players. “We’re celebrating not just the state champions but the heart, the spirit of our team.”

The team members on the Division 3 winning team are Marco Agting, Gigi Bucci, Jasmin Harris, Alyson Harris, Jordan Jones, Faustin Kelly, Hannah King, Anaya McCoy, Quinn McNellis, Beverly Nwachukwu, Conner Peterson, Jeremiah Richardson, Nehemiah Richardson, Eliakim Taylor.

Special Olympics Athletic Director is Katie Rice. Team coaches working with Garland are co-head coach Jen Olumstad with assist coaches Katie Nieckula, Tiffany Mucha and Aimee Veal.
