Flossmoor police arrest suspect in August graffiti incident

Flossmoor police announced on Thursday, Sept. 18, that officers arrested a suspect and charged him in connection with an August graffiti incident.

Sean Helton of Flossmoor was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 16, on two counts of criminal damage to government property, police said.

The arrest stems from a follow-up investigation on incidents on Friday, Aug. 22, when graffiti, including racial slurs and racist symbols, were found painted on a wall of the Flossmoor Metra Station and on a sculpture installation in Leavitt Park just west of downtown.

“The Flossmoor Police Department takes incidents related to hate and racism in our community very seriously,” Police Chief Carl Estelle said. “The arrest in this case reflects our commitment to holding individuals accountable for acts that seek to divide and cause harm. We will continue to work closely with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office to ensure justice is served and remain dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive community for all residents.”
