Homewood School District 153 Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, followed immediately by the regular meeting at the James Hart School media center, 18220 Morgan St. The agenda for the public hearing on the budget is available here. Highlights:
- Following a public hearing on the FY2026 budget, the board will consider adopting the budget during the regular meeting.
- The board also will hear from the consulting firm helping with the superintendent’s search.

- Consider an amendment to the village zoning code to prohibit swimming pools from being rented out for parties and other events.
Notices
Courts/Rink Closures. Beginning Monday, Sept. 15, the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District racquet sports courts at Lions Park and Orchard Park, and the roller hockey rink at Millennium Park will be closed until further notice for washing and resurfacing. Outdoor racquet sports courts are also available at Flossmoor Park, Flossmoor Hills Park, Highlands Park, Pheasant Trails Park and Indian Trails Park.
Flossmoor Streetscape Update. Last week, crews scraped the street surface on Sterling Avenue, Park Drive and Central Drive. On Monday, those streets will be closed as early as 6 a.m. as crews begin paving asphalt on the traffic lanes. The North Commuter Lot will be accessible from the north end of Sterling Avenue through the morning commute, then closed for road work. Once the asphalt sufficiently cools, areas will be reopened. On Tuesday, work will involve mostly landscaping with some temporary parking closures. On Wednesday, the west side of Sterling Avenue will be closed temporarily as crews put in the last of the remaining concrete curbs.
Glenwood Bridge Work. Starting Monday, Sept. 15, the bridge at 187th Street and Chicago Heights-Glenwood Road in Glenwood will be limited to one lane of westbound traffic for about four weeks. Eastbound traffic will be detoured from Halsted Street into Thornton, then south to Glenwood-Thornton Road.

Prime Time Fitness with Gigi. Low-impact aerobics for beginners or mature exercisers starts at 10:30 a.m. at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St. in Homewood.
Broadway/Disney Karaoke. Sing your heart out to your favorite Broadway and Disney tunes. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host karaoke from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Teen Leadership Council. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a meeting of the leadership council from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. Teens who want to change the world around them discuss programming ideas, book suggestions or anything else that will help make the world a better place. Night of the Living B-Rated Horror Film. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a series of bad horror movies. This month, from 6 to 8 p.m., “Trolls 2” will be shown. Feel free to bring blankets and pillows. Snacks and drinks will be provided. All films are rated PG-13. Viewer discretion is advised. Coming attractions: Oct. 27: “Killer Clowns from Outer Space” and Nov. 17: “Slotherhouse.”
Teddy Campbell Bands – Good Vibe Monday. Teddy Campbell brings the hottest musician in the world to funk it up freestyle at Copper Still, 1961 Ridge Road, every Monday. Buy tickets here. Doors open at 7 p.m. Show starts at 8 p.m.

Bingo for Teens. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host bingo in the FORT from 6 to 7 p.m.

Aqua Zumba with Gigi. This class is a low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St. starting at 9:30 a.m. Fee is $10 for club members, $20 for guests.
Thursday, Sept. 18
Pumpkin Spice Everything. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host in The Attic from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. an opportunity for anyone ages 10 to 18 to enjoy pumpkin spice crafts, snacks and major fall vibes. Register here.
Chess Club for All. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host an hour of fun playing chess from 4 to 5 p.m. Practice skills or learn the basics of playing the game. The club is for all ages.
Teen Movie Club. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a showing of the movie “La La Land” (rated PG 13) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required.
Karaoke at the Q. Twisted Q BBQ, 2053 Ridge Road, will host karaoke from 8 to 11 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 19
H-F Homecoming Half-Time Show & Alumni Reunion. The 2025 Marching Vikings will take the crowd on a journey through some pop music favorites during the homecoming half time show at the Homewood-Flossmoor High School boys varsity football game, which starts at 7:30 p.m. Former Marching Vikings are invited to join the second annual H-F Band Alumni Reunion and march down memory lane with a night of music, camaraderie and celebration. Saturday, Sept. 20
Community Shred/Electronics Recycling. State Rep. Will Davis will host a paper shredding, electronics recycling and prescription drug takeback event at his office, 1912 W. 174th Street in East Hazel Crest, from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is for households only, not businesses.
Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a teen event from 10 a.m. to noon to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Stations will set up to help teach about Hispanic culture. Registration is not required.
Homewood Outdoor Farmers Market. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Martin Square on Martin Avenue between Chestnut and Ridge Roads in downtown Homewood. Vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, skincare and more. Food trucks will be on hand and ready-to-eat meals will be available.
STEM Saturday. Science play and learning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway.
Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go farther. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended.
Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St., at 8:30 a.m. sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts.

Parent Night: Standards Based Grading. Flossmoor School District 161 will host an opportunity from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for parents to learn more about the district’s new standards-based grading system at Parker Junior High, 2810 School St. Refreshments served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Register here.

Legislative Write-In. The League of Women Voters Homewood Flossmoor Area will host an opportunity from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for food, fellowship, fun, reuniting, recruiting and writing letters to legislators about important issues. Saturday, Sept. 27
Food Drive. The Parish of St. John Neumann is sponsoring a food drive to benefit Catholic Charities. Canned goods, dry cereal, soups and other non-perishable food items can be dropped off in the parish parking lot at 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood.
