Flossmoor trustee introduces new prize for local business sticker cards to promote patronage

Flossmoor Trustee Gary Daggett announced at the Aug. 4 board meeting a new incentive of a boat excursion to encourage shoppers to participate in the downtown business sticker card program.

The Support Our Shops program was started by the village late last week to help bring shoppers downtown during the construction phase of the streetscape renovation project. Construction has made shopping less convenient than usual, but businesses are all open and accessible.

Daggett said he’s a licensed sailboat captain who owns a 41-foot sailboat. He plans to draw a card, and offer the winner an excursion for eight people on the boat, along with access to the Columbia Yacht Club in Chicago for dinner and a bottle of wine.

Daggett explained that residents can go to the village hall and downstairs to the building department to receive a sticker card. Cards also are available in downtown stores.

“When you purchase something, they’ll give you a little sticker,” Daggett said. “When you fill up all six of these, you can bring them back (to village hall) and you can trade it in for Flossmoor swag if you do that before Oct. 1.”

Residents must provide their name, email and phone number on submitted cards.

Daggett also encouraged others to donate to the prizes and incentives people can receive.
