The village of Flossmoor has initiated a new Support Our Shops promotion.
The construction phase of the downtown Flossmoor streetscape project is causing some disruption in business at local shops, but the village introduced its new promotion program on Friday, Aug. 1, to help provide an incentive to shop local.
The Support Our Shops promotion includes a retail card that can be picked up and used at downtown businesses. Shoppers can collect a sticker for each purchase made at the businesses.

Completed cards can be redeemed at Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Oct. 1 for Flossmoor swag.
The village is posting weekly updates about progress with the streetscape project, which had its origins in a call for increased safety after three pedestrians were struck by a vehicle in 2017. The project involves replacing sidewalks and landscaping, reconfiguring curbs and adding traffic splitters near the island.
The village required the contractor to take steps that allow access to businesses throughout the project. The village has designated free parking spots for shoppers in the north and south commuter lots to compensate for the temporary closure of parking spaces on the west side of Sterling Avenue and on Central Drive.
