District 153 awards food service contracts, sets new meal prices

The Homewood District 153 school board approved food service contracts to four food suppliers at the June 9 meeting.

According to Eric Trimberger, chief school business official, the grocery and meat products deals have been awarded to the following companies for the 2025-26 school year:

  • Performance Food Group at a cost of $144,401.05.
  • Gordon Food Service at a cost of $87,974.27.
  • Sysco Foods at a cost of $56,517.69.
  • Alpha Baking at a cost of $10,017.10.

These costs total $298,910 for District 153. No other bids were submitted, Trimberger said.

In other business, the board also approved new student meal service prices for the 2025-26 school year.

Due to The National School Breakfast and Lunch Program and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the prices need to be increased to cover costs, he said.

“They require us to raise the price 10 cents each year,” Trimberger said, adding, “and we need to raise it about 5 cents to cover costs for milk.”

According to Trimberger, the new prices are going to be as follows:

  • $2.55 for breakfast.
  • $3.45 for student lunches.
  • $4.45 for adult lunches.
  • $.35 per carton of milk.
