Highlights

  • Consider a motion to direct staff to negotiate the sale and redevelopment of Park West Plaza at 3003-3025 W. 183rd St. to one of three bidders: Rabid Ground LLC; VMB Ventures LLC; and Caton Commercial Real Estate Group and Granite Realty Partners. The staff analysis of each bid is available here.
  • Consider a budget amendment of $122,000 to pay for design services by The Linden Group for improvements to the Homewood Auditorium at 2010 Chestnut Road.
  • Continuance of the public hearing on the proposed Harwood TIF District to the Aug. 12 meeting. The public hearing extension resolution is available here.
  • The village clerk will administer four oaths of office: To Charise Campbell as building department administrative secretary, to William Galgan as firefighter/paramedic, to Shamarr Shelton as firefighter/paramedic and to Adam Grant as police officer.
  • Consider a special use permit for Sunny’s Smoothie Cafe to operate at 18035 Dixie Highway.
  • Consider a special use permit for Lux3Locz Salon to operate at 18346 Governors Highway.

Memorial Day

Monday, May 26

Memorial Day in Homewood. The Wally Burns VFW Post 8077 will host its annual Memorial Day service at 10:15 a.m. in the Veterans Memorial park at Olive Road and Harwood Avenue. The Homewood-Flossmoor High Marching Band will perform, as will a combined James Hart and Parker Junior High band. The event will include wreath laying services, the sounding of taps and a 21-gun salute.

Memorial Day in Flossmoor. Residents and community musicians come together for a remembrance event and sounding of taps at 3 p.m. at the Village Hall flagpole, 2800 Flossmoor Road.

Closures. Homewood School District 153, Flossmoor School District 161 and Homewood-Flossmoor School District 233 are closed. Homewood and Flossmoor village halls are closed. Homewood and Flossmoor libraries are closed.

Metra Schedule. Metra will operate a Sunday/Holiday schedule for Memorial Day on Monday, May 26, 2025.  Alcohol will not be allowed on any Metra train through Monday, May 26. Visit metra.com for additional information.

Homewood Disposal Schedule. There will be no residential garbage, recycling or yard waste service today. All services will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week. For customers who normally have service on Monday, pickup will be on Tuesday. Tuesday pickup will be on Wednesday. Wednesday pick up will be on Thursday. Thursday pick up will be on Friday. Friday pick up will be on Saturday.

Saturday, May 31

Homewood Outdoor Farmers Market Opening Day. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Martin Square on Martin Avenue between Chestnut and Ridge roads in downtown Homewood. Vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, handcrafted jewelry, skincare and more. Food trucks will be on hand and ready-to-eat meals will be available. Entertainment will include live music and activities for kids.

Lemonade on the Lawn. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will offer lemonade from noon to 2 p.m. as part of the Summer Reading Program.

Wednesday, June 11

Homewood-Flossmoor Community Band Concert. The band will offer a free classical music concert from 6 to 8 p.m. at Irwin Park, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood.

IPO Summer Concert. The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra will open its summer concert series at Olympia Fields Country Club, 2800 Country Club Drive, Olympia Fields, with two sets from its brass quintet. Saturday, June 14

Homewood Car Cruise. The new car show will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Harwood Avenue commuter lot. The event is a fundraiser for Anew: Building Beyond Violence.

Thursday, June 19

Juneteenth Parade and Block Party. You Matter 2 will present the annual Juneteenth parade on June 19. The parade will step off at 10 a.m. from Western Avenue School and will end at Parker Junior High. It will be followed by a block party in the Parker Junior High parking lot until 2 p.m. as H-F celebrates freedom, diversity and Black culture.

Friday, June 20

H-F Pride Fest. There will be entertainment from MC Queen Sasha Love, the Bel Canto Community Choir and The Divas from 5 to 9 p.m. in Irwin Park as the H-F community celebrates diversity and supports LGBTQ+ pride.

Thursday, July 24

Chamber Night. The fifth annual Chamber Night will bring the music and family fun to a new location, Flossmoor Commons, starting at 5 p.m. There will be food, local business vendors and more great music, headlined by an Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra ensemble playing showtunes.
