Friday, May 9

Senior Social Hour. An hour of pleasant conversation and light refreshments from 1 to 2 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

H-F Film Fest. Students in the film program at Homewood-Flossmoor High School will present their work in the first H-F Film Festival set for 6 p.m. Friday, May 9, in the cafeteria in the South Building, 999 Kedzie Ave. in Flossmoor. The event is free.

Saturday, May 10

Metra Service Change. On Saturday and Sunday, Metra Electric Line trains will terminate and originate at the 18th Street Station. A Sunday schedule will be in effect both days. There will be no train service to Museum Campus or Van Buren stations. Riders with mobility needs who wish to reach Millennium Station will need to transfer to a bus at McCormick Place. Anyone else who wants to reach Millennium will transfer to a shuttle bus at 18th Street.

Fairy Gardens. Kids can bring a grown-up and together create a fairy garden from 10:30 a.m. to noon. All supplies will be provided. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

STEM Saturday. Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, will host its free weekly science play time for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Play opportunities include Pixel Pegs, Nano, Early Math Counts Activities, Makerspace, Imagination Playground, Dinosaur Bones, LEGO Wall and more. 

Chicken Class. This class is designed for anyone who is considering getting chickens, as well as for those who already have their own birds. Learn how to find local laws, choose and raise chicks and care for adult birds. Hosted from 1 to 3 p.m. by Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

Sock Puppet Memorial and Replacement Ceremony. Friday, May 9, is National Lost Sock Memorial Day. On that day, we mourn all of the socks that we have lost the pairs to. Find a sock that you have lost the pair to on Friday, and mourn your lost pair. On Saturday, come to Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and use white socks to create a replacement sock.

Reimagining Cabaret. Lynn Colbert-Jones will present Reimagining Cabaret: The Genres Explored at 7:30 p.m. at Freedom Hall, 410 Lakewood Blvd. in Park Forest. Experience a concert that unites and uplifts. Tickets available here.

Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go farther. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended.

Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. at 8:30 a.m. sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts.

Weinermobile at Walt’s. The Oscar Meyer Weinermobile will be at Walt’s Food Center, 2345 W. 183rd St. in Homewood, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
