Byron Walker was elected to the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District board of commissioners in the April 1 election. But a second seat remains open. The park board is seeking nominations by April 29 from residents interested in serving on the board.

Candidates need to be registered voters of the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District and a Homewood or Flossmoor resident for at least one year. Because only Walker was elected, the board now can appoint someone to fill the second vacant seat.
Park District commissioners are elected by the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District voters to serve six-year terms in an unpaid, voluntary capacity. Steve Johnson stepped off the board after serving for 18 years, and Linda Ojode stepped off after serving one term.
The person appointed will serve until the next consolidated election in April 2027. The term of the appointment will be from May 20, 2025, until the swearing in of the elected candidate in May 2027.
This seat on the park board will be on the ballot in the April 2027 consolidated election for the remaining four years of the six-year term.
To apply, interested residents should submit a letter of interest and a completed questionnaire. Questionnaires may be downloaded from the park district’s website at www.hfparks.com, or may be requested by calling 708-957-0300 or emailing Anne Brabec at [email protected].
