Homewood-Flossmoor School District 233 Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Viking Room, South Building, 999 Kedzie Ave. The agenda is available here.

Highlights: The board will consider memorandums of understanding with the Homewood-Flossmoor Educational Organization (HFEO) and Homewood-Flossmoor Support Staff Association (HFSSA).

Monday, April 14

Cookbook Club for Teens. Anyone in grades seven through 12 who likes to cook, bake and talk about recipes is invited to meet from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Participants will choose a cookbook and pick a recipe from that book. They will make it at home and return the next month with a sample of their recipe or just report on how it went. Registration is required. Please list any food allergies in the notes field.

Tuesday, April 15

Skin Cancer Awareness and Treatments. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host Advocate Aurora Health representatives, who will talk about skin cancer, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The presentation will cover causes and treatments and is open to all ages.

H-F Library Open House. The library staff at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, 999 Kedzie Ave.,is hosting a Community Open House from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, that will include a book fair with Bookie’s Book Shop. Kids of all ages can read stories to the Zoobot animals, hear from storyteller Emily Hooper Lansana, and enjoy craft sessions. Enter through Door 12 off the north parking lot for this free event.

Book Discussion on Sociopath: A Memoir. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a discussion of “Sociopath: A Memoir” by Patric Gagne from 7 to 8 p.m. Registration is not required. Light refreshments will be served.

Homewood Stories. The show will feature stories told by a marketer, a former tech executive, a cycling enthusiast and a former financier at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the Flossmoor Community Church Community House. Tickets are $15 cash at the door. No credit cards.

Wednesday, April 16

Young Writers Club. Anyone in sixth through 12th grade is welcome to share their work and hone their writing skills from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway.

3D Print an Easter Cookie Cutter. Learn to use the 3D printer while making an Easter themed cookie cutter from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. No prior experience is necessary. There is a $5 fee. This event is intended for adults aged 18 and older.

Best Bicycle Trails. The Best Bicycle Trails in Illinois and Surrounding States will be presented by John Lynn from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. Registration is not required.

Friday, April 18

Middle School Ecology Internship. Today is the application deadline for the internship for anyone in sixth through eighth grades. Service dates are Saturdays from April 26 through May 31. This internship will complement the Ecosystems science content and the science and engineering practices reflected in the Next Generation Science Standards for middle school. This internship is a student-led program supporting student agency and equitable practices and will include a community project to support Homewood Izaak Walton PreserveClick here to apply

Saturday, April 19

Homewood Cleanup Day. In honor of Earth Day, Homewood is hosting a community clean-up from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The village will provide garbage bags, gloves, trash pickers and safety vests. Volunteers should meet at Homewood Public Works, 17755 Ashland Ave. Sign up to volunteer here.

STEM Saturday. The Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, hosts the free educational play session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Navigating Court Archives. This program, Navigating the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court Archives, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will help participants effectively use this historical research gem. Covered topics include county naturalizations, divorces, civil and criminal case files, wills and probate files, and even Chicago “Burnt Records.” Registration is not required.

Roller Derby. Comic Book Crushers vs. Retro Rumblers in a Chicago Knockouts Premier League bout at Homewood Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. Doors open at 7:15 p.m., action begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door, trackside $20, front row $25. Accessible seating available at no extra charge.

Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group, which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go further. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended.

Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run, and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. at 8:30 a.m. sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts.

Tuesday, April 22

All-Star Star Wars. A special concert will feature 30 local all-star student musicians and 35 professional IPO musicians performing the iconic Star Wars Suite by John Williams. Two concerts, one at 10 a.m. and one at noon at the Center For Performing Arts at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park. Tickets are available here.

Thursday, April 24

Gnomes and Gnosh. The Village of Homewood is partnering with the Homewood Public Library and the H-F Park District to host an event for Homewood and Flossmoor seniors ages 55 and up from 10 a.m. to noon at Irwin Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. Participants will be able to create coasters and enjoy a light breakfast at no charge. Registration is limited.

Friday, April 25

Adult Flashlight Egg Hunt. From 8 to 10 p.m. at Irons Oaks, 20000 Western Ave., adults will have a chance to hunt for prize-filled eggs hidden along the trail. Bring a flashlight and a basket. For anyone age 21 and up. Fee is $30. Click here to register.

Soaring Strings. The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra’s 47th anniversary gala will be held at Olympia Fields Country Club, 2800 Country Club Drive. The event will feature the CoverGirls Violin Show. Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. Music and dancing until 10:30 p.m. Tickets are available here

Saturday, May 10

Reimagining Cabaret. Lynn Colbert-Jones will present Reimagining Cabaret: The Genres Explored at 7:30 p.m. at Freedom Hall, 410 Lakewood Blvd. in Park Forest. Experience a concert that unites and uplifts. Tickets available here.

Saturday, May 17

Homewood Public Works Open House. A day of discovery and delight as kids and families get a chance to play and learn about how public works operates from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 17755 Ashland Ave.
