Flossmoor Public Art Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 31, in village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road. The agenda is available here.
Election Day. Early voting continues Monday, March 31. Nearby polling places include Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights, or Markham Courthouse, 16501 S. Kedzie Ave. On Election Day, April 1, polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Voters can find their polling place on the mailing from the Cook County Clerk’s office or by visiting the clerk’s website.

Learn about the qualifications and priorities of candidates for Homewood and Flossmoor village boards, Homewood and Flossmoor school district boards of education, H-F Park District board and Homewood and Flossmoor library boards. Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Board of Commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in the Goldberg Administration Center, 3301 Flossmoor Road. The agenda will be posted here when available.
Flossmoor Board of Police and Fire Commissioners will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, and Thursday, April 3, in village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road. The agenda is available here. The commission will convene in closed session to discuss the hiring of an entry level police officer.

Monday, March 31
Barbie Career Fair. The message for kids is “You can be anything you want to be” at a Barbie-inspired Career Fair, hosted from 2 to 3:30 p.m. by the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. The Mattel doll and film showcase the many careers kids can aspired to. The event will include interactive stations, crafts and activities. Kids are encouraged to dress up as their favorite professional or Barbie-themed costume. Designed for kids ages 5-12.
Trans Day of Visibility Craft Night. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host an event to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility with crafts, refreshments and LGBTQ+ books. Open to all ages.
Teen Build Challenge. Can you build a structure that can withstand a hurricane? How much weight can your structure hold without breaking? Find out from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the FORT at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, when you make a structure out of materials supplied by the library. Snacks served. Prizes awarded. Registration preferred, not required.
Spring Break Family Movie: Lilo & Stitch. The 2002 Disney animated film about an alien who befriends a little girl will show from 6 to 8 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. Feel free to wear your pajamas, bring your favorite stuffies and blankets to get cozy.
Tuesday, April 1
Earth Day Junk Art Contest. Can you make art out of anything? This is your chance to show how. Stop by the Flossmoor Public Library youth services desk, 1000 Sterling Ave., to pick up a junk art bag and then get to work. Pick up starts at 3 p.m. and continues through April 8. Turn in your artwork by April 21 to be included in the Junk Art Gallery. Voting Begins April 22.
Friday, April 4
Aspire at Calvary Assembly of God. Aspire is a one-night women’s event full of laughter, learning, stories and music with one Bible teacher, one comedian and one musician that will be hosted by Calvary Assembly of God at 18620 Governors Highway in Flossmoor. Doors open at 6 p.m. Show starts at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $30, VIP are $40. Tickets available here.
Trail Mix: Nathan Graham. Trail Mix Productions will host Chicago-based blues singer Nathan Graham and his band in Cooper’s Hall at the Thornton Distilling Co., 400 E. Margaret St. in Thornton. Falling Stars will open. Doors open at 6 p.m. Falling Stars will perform at 7 p.m. and Graham will hit the stage at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance. Day of show tickets are $30.
Saturday, April 5
Southland Spring Cleanup. Volunteers can join the Flossmoor Green Commission and Flossmoor Public Works staff for the annual cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon. Meet at the Meijer store parking lot, 3800 Vollmer Road. Sign up here.
Barb & Dan’s Road Ride. Riders of all experience levels can join the group, which leaves at 8 a.m. from GoodSpeed Cycle, 2125 183rd St. in Homewood. There is a no-drop group that rides about 20 miles and stronger riders sometimes go further. Helmets required, daytime lights strongly recommended.
Off-leash Ride. A leisurely just-riding-around nine-mile ride every Saturday. Route includes Butterfield Creek bike path, Rovers Run, and Izaak Walton Preserve. Starts at GoodSpeed Cycles, 2125 183rd St. at 8:30am sharp, ends back at the shop 9:45ish for donuts.
Gold Star Saturday. Flossmoor Veterans Wall of Honor will honor Gold Star Families and the 80th anniversary of the dedication of Flossmoor’s first veterans honor roll at The Rock Shop, 18109 Dixie Highway in Homewood at 2 p.m.
Spring Youth Makers Market. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a Spring Youth Makers Market from noon to 3:30 p.m. Explore unique creations from local young artists and entrepreneurs. From handmade jewelry to one-of-a-kind crafts, you’ll find something special while supporting the next generation of creators.
Sunday, April 6
National Library Week ‘Drawn to the Library.’ In honor of this year’s National Library Week theme of “Drawn to the Library,” Homewood Public Library is accepting drawings from patrons that answer the question, “What draws you to the library? Is it books? Programs? Art activities? Book club? Storytime? Computers?” This is not an art contest and one winner will be “drawn” randomly from each age group, from young kids to seniors over 60, but all drawings will be on display during the month of April. Gallery of drawings will be open from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.
‘With a Voice of Singing’ Concert. Grande Prairie Choral Arts will present an afternoon of choral classics with music by Martin Shaw, Ola Gjeilo, Felix Mendelssohn, Haydn, Handel, Brahms and Brunner. No tickets required but free will donations accepted. Starts at 3 p.m. at
1131 Douglas Ave., Flossmoor.

Saturday, April 12
Lucky Egg Hunt. Youngsters will have a chance to gather eggs, including a few special eggs with extra prizes, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Apollo Park, near Morgan Street and Bowling Green Road. For kids age 10 and younger. H-F Park District residents only. Free.
Lucky Dog Egg Hunt. Dogs and their people can hunt for treat-filled eggs at Apollo Park, near Morgan Street and Bowling Green Road, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Families and friendly, on-leash dogs welcome.
Saturday, April 19
Homewood Cleanup Day. In honor of Earth Day, Homewood is hosting a community clean-up from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The village will provide garbage bags, gloves, trash pickers and safety vests. Volunteers should meet at Homewood Public Works, 17755 Ashland Ave. Sign up to volunteer here.
