Highlights: The board will consider a resolution authorizing a contract with Axon Enterprises to purchase 10 new tasers. The board will also hear a presentation on the preliminary 2025-2026 capital budget.

Flossmoor Plan Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in village hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road. The agenda is available here.
Highlight: The commission will review a proposed planned unit development for BG Park Center in the 2600 block of Flossmoor Road. The plan calls for the development of 12 townhome units and a cafe.

Monday, March 17
Early Voting Begins. Voters can cast their ballots early for the April 1 Consolidated Election starting today through Monday, March 31. Prairie State College Conference Center, 202 South Halsted St. in Chicago Heights is the closest early voting site. Early voting is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, March 17 through 31. There is no voting on Sundays, March 23 or 30, or on Thursday, March 27. Voters will be casting votes for Flossmoor mayor and trustees; Homewood mayor and trustees; Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233; Flossmoor District 161; Homewood District 153; Homewood and Flossmoor library trustees; H-F Park District board; and township offices.
Hidden Figures. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will celebrate Women’s History Month with a showing of the film, “Hidden Figures,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The film is about three Black women who worked for NASA in the 1960s and contributed to the success of the space program.
Candidate Forum. Mother Diva’s House will host a candidate forum from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cilantro Cantina Mexicana, 18755 Dixie Highway. Candidates will speak starting at 7 p.m. The event will include candidates for Flossmoor Board of Trustees Kevin Dorsey, Belgee Falkner, Troy Holmes and Carolyn Rodgers; candidates for District 233 Board of Education Lenita Gipson, Camille O’Quin and Tamekia Smith; candidate for District 161 Board of Education Ashly Giddens; candidate for H-F Park District Board of Commissioners Byron Walker; candidate for Flossmoor Public Library Board of Trustees Lesley Klauk; candidate for Bremen Township Supervisor Vernard Alsberry; candidate for Hazel Crest mayor Marlon Rias; and candidate for Rich Township School District 227 Board of Education Shagmond Lowery.
Tuesday, March 18
Teen Bingo. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host bingo for teens in the FORT upstairs from 6 to 7 p.m. There will be prizes for winners.
Hindsight in 2020: The Long Road to Universal Suffrage. The Heritage Quilters Guild and the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau will host Jeanne Shultz Angel, who will present on the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote nationwide. The presentation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 651 E. 166th St. in South Holland.
Author Visit with Mindy McGinnis. Meet Mindy McGinnis from 7 to 8 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. McGinnis is an Edgar Award-winning American writer who writes young adult fiction. Registration is preferred but not required.
Spring Equinox Night Hike. Celebrate the Spring equinox with a guided night hike through the trails of Irons Oaks, 20000 Western Ave., from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost is $6 for H-F Park District residents, $8 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Puzzle Palooza. Put the pieces together from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. Teams can compete to see which one can complete the same 300-piece puzzle first. Prizes for the first three fastest finishers. Light snacks will be served. For all ages. Cost is $30 for H-F Park District residents, $40 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Book Sale. The Friends of the Homewood Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library, 17917 Dixie Highway.
Sunday, March 23
Improvised Jane Austen. Improvised Jane Austen will perform from 2 to 3 p.m. at Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway. The comedic ensemble creates unscripted performances using Jane Austen’s tropes, themes and language to create a satirical romantic comedy set in Regency-era England.
Plan ahead
Thursday, March 27
PMA 70th anniversary. The Homewood Parent Music Association will host an anniversary celebration and concert at 7 p.m. at James Hart School, 18220 Morgan St. in Homewood. There will be performances from current District 153 musicians, testimonials from Homewood parents and music program alumni, a celebration of 2025 PMA summer scholarship recipients, raffles and chocolate for sale.
Friday, April 11
Flashlight Egg Hunt. A nighttime egg hunt adventure for kids ages 3 to 10 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Irons Oaks woods. Meet at the Vollmer Road parking lot. An adult must accompany each child. Cost is $12 for H-F Park District residents, $15 for non-residents. Click here to register.
