Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Normandy Villa, 41 E. Elmwood Drive, Chicago Heights. The agenda is available here. The livestream of the meeting can be viewed here.
Highlights: The board will consider contracts for the superintendent and other staff. The board will also discuss playground equipment at Heather Hill and Serena Hills schools.
Homewood School District 153 Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. in the district office at 18205 Aberdeen St. and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the James Hart School media center, 18220 Morgan St. The regular meeting agenda is available here.
Highlights:
Superintendent search. The special meeting will include a presentation by a superintendent search firm. During the regular meeting the board will consider a contract with School Exec Connect.
Audit. The board will hear an overview of the district audit.
Thornton Township Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at township hall, 333 E. 162nd St., South Holland. The agenda is available here.

Highlights:
- Harwood TOD TIF District. The board will convene and then consider extending until April 8 a public hearing on the proposed TIF district pending resolution of several elements related to the redevelopment plan.
- Budget public hearing. The board will hold a public hearing on the 2025-2026 budget. Budget highlights are available here. The budget document is available here.
- Incentive for Royal Cultures. The board will consider $12,000 in non-TIF business incentives to Royal Cultures for expenses related to expanding the business at 1953-1955 Ridge Road.
- Maple Tree mortgage release. The board will consider releasing a mortgage taken out on Maple Tree Inn as part of its redevelopment agreement.
- Solicit alternative bids. The board will consider soliciting for alternate bids before selling 3003-3025 183rd St. to Rabid Ground, which plans to move Rabid Brewing into the space.

Tuesday, March 11
Tuesday Tales. Stories, songs and a craft for youngsters from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave.
Make It Take It Tuesday. If you’re a teen who likes to make things, visit the FORT upstairs in the Homewood Public Library from 6 to 7 p.m. and grab supplies for a cool new craft that you can make at the library or at home. Instructions and supplies will be included, but certain tools will not be. Registration is not required.
Wednesday, March 12
Bingo. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host bingo games with prizes for adults and seniors from 11 a.m. to noon.
History of Izaak Walton Preserve. The Homewood Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. in Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, followed by a presentation from Izaak Walton Preserve President John Brinkman on the history of the preserve. There will be light refreshments. The meeting is free and open to the public. Call 708-799-9055 for more information.
Thursday, March 13
Chess Club for Kids. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a chance from 4 to 5 p.m. for children age 7 and up to practice chess skills or learn the basics.
Alice’s Ordinary People Screening. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host a screening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. of the film “Alice’s Ordinary People,” about Alice Tregay’s five decades of activism with an introduction and Q&A session led by the director Craig Dudnick. Registration is not required for this program.
Friday, March 14
St. Patrick’s Day Button. Stop by the Makery in the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, any time from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to make a personalized St. Patrick’s Day button. This event is free for Homewood residents. No registration required.
Native Plant Sale. Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave. in Olympia Fields, will begin taking native plant orders starting at 9 a.m. Plants can be ordered through May 2. Pickup will be on May 17.
Lenten Fish Fry. St. John Neumann Parish will continue hosting its Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, March 7, at the church hall, 17951 Dixie Highway in Homewood. Service will continue on Fridays, March 21, 28, April 4 and 11, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Carry-out service will be available.
Saturday, March 15
St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Flossmoor will hold its 18th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Flossmoor Park. Lineup begins at 12:30 p.m. at the FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road. The parade will step off at 1 p.m.
O’Leary’s Lantern. Irish band O’Leary’s Lantern will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Ridgewood, 2059 Ridge Road in Homewood.
Candidate Forums. The League of Women Voters of the Homewood-Flossmoor Area will host forums for Homewood mayoral candidates at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, in the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway, followed by trustee candidates; and Hazel Crest mayoral candidates at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, in the Martin Kauchak Public Safety Building Senior Room, 3000 W. 170th St., followed by trustee candidates.
Sunday, March 16
Doodlepalooza. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host from 3 to 4:15 p.m. a session for people who like listening to books and drawing doodles. Participants will listen to picture books about doodles and then use their imaginations and problem solving skills to create doodle masterpieces.
Plan ahead
PMA 70th anniversary. The Homewood Parent Music Association will host an anniversary celebration and concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at James Hart School, 18220 Morgan St. in Homewood. There will be performances from current District 153 musicians, testimonials from Homewood parents and music program alumni, a celebration of 2025 PMA summer scholarship recipients, raffles and chocolate for sale.
