Highlights:

  • Consider a contract for engineering in preparation for relocating a sanitary sewer line currently under the Civic Center building.
  • Consider a special use permit for an in-ground pool at 1401 Brassie Ave.
  • Consider a side letter to the village’s agreement with the Flossmoor Fraternal Order of Police that would include sign-on bonuses for new police officers.
  • Discuss a proposal to redevelop village-owned property at 19725 Governors Highway into Flossmoor Smokehouse, a barbecue restaurant and entertainment center. 
  • Discuss the preliminary 2025-2026 budget.

Monday, March 3

Teen Leadership Council. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a meeting of teens from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. The library is looking for teen leaders in grades seven through 12 to help with programming ideas, book suggestions or anything else that will help make the world around us a better place. Register here.

Tuesday, March 4

The Service Hour. Teens aged 10 to 18 are invited to Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for an opportunity to help out in the community. Register here.

Cookies & Comics. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a discussion of “Almost Sunset” by Wahab Algarmi from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Register here.

South Halsted Corridor Open House. Pace, in collaboration with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), will hold an open house meeting for area residents to help shape the future of land use and potential transportation, bicycle, and pedestrian infrastructure improvements along the Far South Halsted Street corridor. The meeting will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. at Prairie State College in the Proven IT Room, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights. Attendees should enter through door M36.

Wednesday, March 5

Cardmaking. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a class on making greeting cards. Each participant will receive a kit with all the supplies needed to complete several greeting cards along with step-by-step instructions. Register here.

Thursday, March 6

Afternoon Book Discussion: Hitchcock Hotel. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host at 2 p.m. a discussion of “The Hitchcock Hotel” by Stephanie Wrobel. Registration is not required. Light refreshments will be served.

Just For Fun: Name That Tune. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host Name That Tune Gen X & Millennial Edition from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Teams will face off to see who knows their music.

Friday, March 7

Spongebob Auditions. 23 Miles South Theatre will audition actors for The SpongeBob Musical from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 7. Roles are available for actors ages 7 to 18. All actors must be under age 19 by May 30. Auditions will be held in the lower level of Abundant Grace Church, 18200 Dixie Highway, Homewood. Enter through the west side, downstairs door. Performances will be held May 30 and 31.

Prince Charming Dance. The H-F Park District will host an event from 6 to 8 p.m. for moms, grandmothers and aunts to take their prince charmings aged 3 to 12 on a date at the H-F Sports Complex, 18211 S. Aberdeen Ave. There will be games, snacks and dancing. The fee is $34 for district residents, $44 for non-residents. Click here to register.

Saturday, March 8

Pancake Picnic. Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, 20000 Western Ave., Olympia Fields, will host an opportunity from 9 to 10 a.m. to learn about the process of converting maple sap into syrup during a stroll through the forest followed by a pancake feast. Registration is required. The fee is $9 for district residents, $11 for non-residents.

Candidate Forum. The League of Women Voters of the Homewood-Flossmoor Area will host a forums for Flossmoor mayor and trustee candidates starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway. The forum for trustee candidates will follow the forum for mayor candidates. Voters will have an opportunity to submit questions during the forum.

Trail Mix Home Grown Concert. Trail Mix Concert Series will feature four local artists starting at 7 p.m. in Senior Hall at Izaak Walton Preserve, 1100 Ridge Road in Homewood. Performers will include Salus & Ploum, Ben Salus, Bugs Still Fly and Jess & Dave.

Roller Derby: Pirates vs. Sea Creatures. Chicago Knockouts Wreck League will host a roller derby bout between the Pirates and Sea Creatures. Doors open at 7:15 p.m., 2010 Chestnut Road in Homewood. Action begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 online, $20 to $25 at the door. Accessible seating available at no extra charge. Tickets available here.

Flossmoor Entry-Level Police Officer Applications Due. Applications are now open for entry-level officers through today. Written test will be offered on Saturday, March 15.

Saturdays, March 15 and March 22

Candidate Forums. The League of Women Voters of the Homewood-Flossmoor Area will host a forums Homewood mayoral candidates at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, in the Homewood Science Center, 18022 Dixie Highway followed by trustee candidates; and Hazel Crest mayoral candidates at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, in the Martin Kauchak Public Safety Building Senior Room, 3000 W. 170th St. followed by trustee candidates.
