Thornton Township Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in township hall, 3301 162nd St., South Holland. The agenda is available here.
Highlights: The first board meeting since the filling of a vacant trustee seat will include agenda items that have languished during a board stalemate, including restoring insurance coverage, passing the property tax levy and budget, considering a property tax refund and bonuses for employees.

Highlights: The board will consider hiring a firm to do engineering work in preparation for repairs to the 183rd Street viaduct, which was struck by a truck last summer. The board will also receive staff reports on village events this year and communication and engagement with the public last year.

Kedzie Avenue Corridor Study. The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways will hold an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. The meeting will be an opportunity for residents to learn about and provide input on upcoming improvements to Kedzie Avenue from Markham to the southern border of Flossmoor. Monday, Jan. 27
Teen Book Swap. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host an opportunity to share and talk about books starting at 7:15 p.m. Participants bring their own book (annotated in the margins) and swap with the person next to them. Everyone has one month to read the book that was given to them and annotate it. The next month, they bring that book back and switch with the person next to them again. The library will provide a book for anyone who doesn’t have one. Gel pens will also be provided. For anyone in grades 7 thru 12.
Tuesday, Jan. 28
Bingo for Teens. Stop by the Homewood Public Library FORT, 17917 Dixie Highway, from 6 to 7 p.m. for a fun game of bingo and win prizes.
Trivia on Tap. Lassens Tap, 2131 183rd St., will host a “Lord of the Rings” (books and films) trivia competition starting at 8 p.m. with prizes for winning teams. LOR attire welcome.
Wednesday, Jan. 29
Aqua Zumba with GiGi. A low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise starting at 9:30 a.m. at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club, 2920 W. 183rd St. in Homewood. Guest pass is $20, or $10 with a member.
Psychic Night. Fifteen-minute Tarot readings for $30 hosted by Spiritually Bonnie Jean at Gypsy Fix, 1056 Sterling Ave. in Flossmoor. Starts at 5 p.m.

Christian Miss Illinois & Midwest State Pageant. Pageant registration is open at noon at The Ministry Center (Calvary Assembly of God), 18620 Governors Highway in Flossmoor. Spotlight Academy Cabaret Night Fundraiser. Spotlight Performance Academy will host a night of live singing and entertainment by academy artists, dancing, and a raffle with a “Great Gatsby” vibe. The event from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor, will be sponsored by the Jody and Karl Nurse Charitable Fund so all proceeds will benefit the academy. Love & Light Candle Making Date Night. You Matter 2 will host a candle-making workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. The BYOB fundraiser will have “a relaxed, fun vibe.” Tickets are $30 for individuals, $55 for couples and $160 for tables of six. Proceeds will benefit You Matter 2 youth programs. The Light of Truth: Richard Hunt’s Monument to Ida B. Wells. Flossmoor Art Council will hold its first event starting at 6:30 p.m. at FCC Community House, 847 Hutchison Road in Flossmoor. In celebration of Flossmoor’s rich art legacy, the council will screen “The Light of Truth: Richard Hunt’s Monument to Ida B. Wells.” Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10. Register here.
