MLK Day of Service. The 10th anniversary of Flossmoor’s Day of Service will include an array of opportunities to volunteer or donate to help others. Visit flossmoor.org for a list of projects.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Lambda Tau Omega Chapter Community Blood Drive. Donate blood from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood. To make an appointment, visit tinyurl.com/ysckeush.
Bird Art Project. The Flossmoor Green Commission and the Southland Green Committee are hosting a workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. at Wiley’s Grill, 800 Kedzie Ave., to work on an MLK Day of Service craft project that will be part of an art installation in Chicago. All supplies will be provided for volunteers to decorate sewn bird plush bodies with bits of fabric and other materials. Register online here.
Fit & Fab Fun With GiGi. Basic low-impact aerobics along with toning and weight-training exercises for beginners or mature exercisers at 10:30 a.m., H-F Racquet & Fitness Center, 2920 W. 183rd St. in Homewood.
Slime Scientists. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host a session of slime-making starting at 4 p.m.
Adolescent Activists. Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, will host an opportunity for teens in grades seven through 12 to share their opinions and views on real world issues and events. Hygge Cafe. Hygge is the Danish concept of coziness, togetherness, and contentment. Join the Flossmoor Public Library in a chill evening of hot cocoa, snacks and laid-back activities starting at 6 p.m. at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave. Pajamas are encouraged.
Trivia on Tap. Lassens Tap, 2131 183rd St., will host a general trivia competition starting at 8 p.m. with prizes for winning teams.
Wednesday, Jan. 22
I-Pass on Demand. Representatives from Illinois State Toll Highway Authority will be at Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., starting at 3 p.m. to provide mobile customer service on a drop-in basis. No registration is needed. Another session of this program will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22.

Makerspace Days. Whether you want to learn how to make earrings, a scribble bot, or create something completely new, the Flossmoor Public Library Makerspace at 1000 Sterling Ave. provides an opportunity starting at 3:30 p.m. There will be a focused activity each session, but participants can come up with their own projects, too.
Xtreme Hip Hop Fitness. Studio 907, 738 Ridge Road, Homewood, will host fitness session at 5 p.m. More info here.
Finders Keepers Library Wine & Words. Professional Women’s Network will host a book discussion and networking event at 7:30 p.m. at Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery, 1035 Sterling Ave. All attendees are responsible for their own food and beverages.
Saturday, Jan. 25
PJ Progressive Shopping. The earlier you shop, the better the deals at the Homewood Business Association progressive shopping event starting at 7 a.m. at participating stores. No need to waste time getting dressed. Shoppers are welcome in their pajamas.
Lunar New Year Celebration. Flossmoor’s annual Lunar New Year Celebration at the Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will begin at 10 a.m. There will be different stations around the Youth Services area where you can learn about the celebration and make a fun craft and take a family picture. The celebration will conclude with a parade throughout the second floor with noise makers and masks. No registration required.
Homewood Indoor Farmers Market. The first indoor market of the year will be from 8 a.m. to noon in the Homewood Auditorium, 2010 Chestnut Road. Fresh food, unique finds and homemade treasures await.
The Art of Falling: Safe Techniques for EveryBODY. Falling is an inevitable part of life. This workshop teaches you how to fall safely and minimize injury, incorporating martial arts, yoga and functional movement principles. Come to Serendipity Yoga and Wellness, 18300 Dixie Highway, at 1 p.m. dressed comfortably with your yoga mat and anything that helps you feel comfortable.
Improv Throwdown. Flossmoor Public Library, 1000 Sterling Ave., will host an improv event at 2 p.m. led by Kate Wiersema and Nelson Velazquez. Kids and teens will participate in a workshop, then have the opportunity to show off their favorite game for the other group and any parents that would like to watch. No theater experience necessary. For ages 6 to 18.
On Cloud Nine Open House. New day care center at 18341 Dixie Highway in Homewood will welcome guests starting at 11 a.m.
Bachata Nights at Cilantro. Learn how to dance the Bachata in a workshop at Cilantro Cocina Mexicana, 18755 Dixie Highway, at 8 p.m. The workshop is $10 and dancing goes until 10 p.m.

H-F Jazz Ensemble Concert. The ensemble was selected to perform at the Illinois Music Education Association All-State Music Conference in Peoria. The Jazz Ensemble will give a preview concert for the public at 7 p.m. in the Mall Auditorium at H-F. Student musicians will be accompanied by Grammy-winning H-F alum Christopher McBride.
Improve Kedzie Avenue Corridor Study Public Information Open House. The Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways will hold an open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Irwin Community Center, 18120 Highland Ave. in Homewood, to provide information and receive community feedback on the Kedzie Avenue Corridor Study.
