Flossmoor School District 161 is collaborating with Project Syncere for the upcoming District 161 STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) Night at Parker Junior High on Feb. 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The event will feature interactive workshops led by Project Syncere staff, where students can explore robotics, tinker sets and circuit kits.
Project Syncere is a Chicago-based organization that provides opportunities for kids to develop critical thinking, problem-solving and technical skills. Its mission is to expand access to high-quality STEM education and help students explore STEM-related careers by collaborating with school districts, universities and community organizations.
Project Syncere’s STEM in Motion program is designed to bring hands-on STEM learning to young students.
STEAM Night will feature STEM in Motion stations and showcase contributions from District 161’s STEAM teachers, highlighting student projects, resources and activities for families. The event will also include food trucks and raffles.
“We’re excited to work with Project Syncere,” Superintendent Dana Smith said at the Jan. 13 Board of Education meeting. “We think that’ll be a nice partner for us as we’re expanding STEAM programs.”
According to District 161 board documents, plans are underway for future collaborations with Project Syncere, including a STEAM summer program during the district’s Summer Academy and an after-school competition STEM team at Parker Junior High School for the 2025-26 school year. This partnership is expected to expand access to STEAM-related experiences for district students.
