Winners of the ‘Seasons of Izaak Walton’ 2025 calendar photo contest announced

Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve officials announced on Oct. 18 the 14 winners of the sixth annual  “Seasons of Izaak Walton” photo calendar competition.

The winning entries are:

  • January: “Sunny Winter Day” by Dawn Coen, Homewood.
  • February: “Sandhill Cranes” by James Shover, Homewood.
  • March: “Gray Glare” by Paul Reis, Oak Park.
  • April: “Three Amigos” by Sharon Sedgwick, Homewood.
  • May: “Flight” by Howard Stark, Homewood.
  • June: “He Went That Way!” by Kenneth Pangburn, Homewood.
  • July: “Here Comes the Sun” by John Sandala, Homewood.
  • August: “Sunkissed: To Make Thee Mine” by Ryan Patrick, Homewood.
  • September: “Cap-tivating” by Tina Ray, Homewood.
  • October: “Wonder” by Cece Belue, Homewood.
  • November: “Autumn’s Farewell Flame” by Jack Chan, Flossmoor.
  • December: “Christmas Dog in Fog” by Laura Devine, Homewood.
  • Front cover: “Post Holidays Beauty” by Todd Wittenberg, Homewood.
  • Back cover: “Out to Lunch” by Heather Marcum, Thornton.

The contest attracted 122 entries from 30 area photographers. 

John Brinkman, president of the Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve, said: “The Izaak Walton Calendar Crew has done it again. We are so pleased to offer a beautiful 2025 calendar featuring beautiful photos from our preserve. Many thanks to the volunteers that made this happen and to all of the participating photographers and judges.”

The 2025 color calendars are at the printer now and will be available in early November at the Izaak Walton website. The cost is $12 if picked up at the preserve, and $15 if mailed. Proceeds will benefit the preserve. 

The Calendar committee is made up of local amateur photographers who often take photos at HIWP including: Laura Barnoski, Heather Marcum, Kenzo Pan, Tina Ray, James Shover, Penny Shnay, Howard Wolinsky and Todd Wittenberg. Francis Fullam and Wolinsky, both of Flossmoor, created the  photo calendar in 2019.

Judges included professional photographers from around the state:

  • Richard “Camera One” Chapman is a career newspaper photographer in Algonquin.
  • Richard “Camera 2” Chapman is an event and portrait photographer working with his father, Richard “Camera One” Chapman.
  • Marty Hackl, a Chicago area nature photographer and a member of the Rockford Symphony.
  • Mat Zook is a nature photographer from Plainfield.
